Making the World Better
The Sunshine Approach Foundation non-profit organization operating in Mozambique, Africa. Our purpose is to make a difference in the lives of the poor and orphaned by supporting and implementing projects that provide for the basic needs of people. Funds to complete these projects are provided by donors and The Sunshine Nut Company, a cashew production company also located in Mozambique.
The Sunshine Nut Company was founded on a focus towards “others” by employing adult orphans and committing the majority of its net proceeds to supporting agricultural development, caring for orphans and vulnerable children, and supporting new food processing companies that share the same vision.
Don Larson, CEO and founder of Sunshine Nut Company, and his wife, Terri Larson, formed The Sunshine Approach Foundation. Terri is the Executive Director and President of The Sunshine Approach Foundation. The Larsons have lived in Mozambique since 2011 and directly oversee the foundation’s activities.
Mission
Improving the lives of the poor, vulnerable and orphaned.
Using donations from our generous supporters and the Sunshine Nut Company, we are able to provide essential support to the orphaned children, and vulnerable men, women, and elderly, in the farming communities of Mozambique.
- Providing shelter, food, education, and love in a family setting to widowed/vulnerable women and orphaned children in our Sunshine Homes.
- Empowering local communities by providing economic opportunities, education, and access to essential services.
- Alleviating poverty by creating sustainable income-generating activities and supporting smallholder farmers
- Enhancing education by improving access to quality education for children and adults through the establishment of educational facilities and programs.
- Ensuring food security by promoting agricultural self-sufficiency and better nutrition practices within communities.
- Fostering gender equality by empowering women and girls through educational and economic opportunities.
- Facilitating access to healthcare and services for underserved populations, focusing on preventive and curative measures.
Vision
The vision of Sunshine Approach Foundation is to transform the lives of the poor, vulnerable and orphaned in Africa by supporting and implementing projects designed to upgrade and change lives. We desire to reach the poorest of the poor and elevate them out of poverty by providing them with dignity, hope, and a future. We believe that the poor living in impoverished, third-world conditions are not living the lives God intended for them to experience. Our goal is to show God’s love to the poor by being His hands and feet as we banish poverty in the areas in which we have reach and influence.

The Role of Sunshine Nut Co.
Unlike traditional for-profit businesses, The Sunshine Nut Company’s core mission is for social impact. The primary role is to serve as a sustainable financial engine that funds the Sunshine Approach Foundation’s community-focused projects and philanthropic initiatives, helping to uplift the lives of people in Mozambique and create lasting positive change.
Through the sales of premium cashew nut products, Sunshine Nut Co. donates 90% of distributed profits (after covering debts, expenses and future investments) to the Sunshine Approach Foundation, which then channels these funds to transform communities through the 3 pillar projects: Sunshine Homes, Sunshine Villages and Sunshine Employment.
